The Truth Behind The CIE Industry In Pakistan

Yes, you read that right.

What are supposed to be examinations to encourage excellence and offer a better standard of education have morphed into a full fledged industry in Pakistan.
Ranging from private schools boasting about their CIE programs (as if they’ve come up with the idea instead), hefty examination fees, cost of expensive books (even my medical college books aren’t as pricey as these ones tbh) and coveted ‘celebrity’ teachers charging copious amounts of money for their sessions that comprise of them standing in front an audience of 200 students cramped in a dingey academy room where they do nothing but give non chalant, vague overviews and sell their notes, goes to show that CIEs are definitely more than just examinations.
They have become status symbols, promising a gateway to foreign colleges that many cannot afford to go to and a ‘must have’ in ‘posh’ societal circles so you too can seem as educated and ‘high class’ as those aunties around you who don’t spare any opportunity to show off the grades of their very smart and intelligent offspring.
Regrettably, all this has been deemed acceptable and is going on for quite a while under the notion of ‘you get what you pay for.’
The problem arises when you are not getting what you pay for, especially those students who had the misfortune of having their results come out during the time of the corona virus.
Simply put, alot of money and effort has been put in paying these overpriced schools and academies and now having grades which make zero sense and are based on nothing but ‘past records’ is what is truly infuriating.
This is what they get after their sleepless nights, anxiety battles and their investment in their education; baseless subpar grades branding their transcript forever.
It’s time this so called ‘reputable’ university is made to held accountable and not letting this act of gross negligence pushed under the carpet. There is no room for tolerance towards this exploitation in the name of an ‘international degree.’
Our students deserve more and we are not going to let anyone decide or hinder our path.
Adequate action must be taken.
